| THRUXTON has the highest overall speed of any UK track.
That's either going to excite you or make you realise that for spectating the majority of the circuit is so fast you'll see
very little. Thruxton is easy to find with fair facilities, but racing is very limited because of the local authority noise
controls. |

VIEWING -
Very fast which is great for drivers but the overall speed means spectators flick their head and see little more than a flash
of car anywhere outside Club and Cobb. If you can squeeze in at Club, Allard or Cobb you can see wheel to wheel racing of
the highest order. Thruxton holds comparatively few events because of the local authority. It's the fastest track on the Touring
Car calendar.
START/FINISH Nearly at the entry point of Allard.
Outfield viewing.
ALLARD An easy right bend which needs good positioning on exit to prepare for the long left curve to Campbell.
Overtaking is possible although there is no run-off on the outfield or infield. The pit exit is also on the corner entry.
Cars enter very fast and disappear into Campbell so although you can see some action it's not the best place to be.
CAMPBELL & COBB Coming in hard Campbell needs sharp braking for this 90 degree right hander. As soon as
a car is in the bend it needs to stay to the infield as Cobb is a sharp left.
Plenty of viewing and plenty of action. Cars get through here any way they can and it's rarely smoothly. They'll use the kerbs,
outfield, infield and even side by side.
SEGRAVE Straight after Cobb Segrave is an opening right hander which curves nearly to the next corner. Cars
accelerate right from Cobb, but it's possible to get the line wrong through Segrave as cars drift to the outfield.
Good viewpoint as it extends from Campbell.
NOBLE A long left curve with no braking.
Little interest for spectators.
GOODWOOD A very long right in the 'goes on forever' vain. It's taken very fast but is quite a direction change and
drifting occurs. Some drivers find the corner unnerving and quite rightly so.
Outfield viewing but cars too fast to be of great interest. Although some overtaking happens it's damned quick.
VILLAGE Village is the opening out of Goodwood. A giant curve taken as fast as a straight.
Little interest to spectators.
CHURCH After all the speed of Goodwood and Village, Church is a comparatively tight right with plenty cars
clipping the apex infield kerb. At the speeds reached here that clipping can really unsettle the car.
No viewing
BROOKLANDS & WOODHAM HILL Fast, fast, fast, that's all we can say.
No viewing
CLUB After all the extreme speed cars are suddenly faced with a complex and very tight section before the pit
straight. From Woodham Hill the track rises into the first right which is double apex. Clipping each apex makes this more of a
curve and judged correctly the next tight left right is easy. The real problem for drivers are each other as more than one car here
at once inevitably creates offs onto the run-off or into the barriers.
An excellent corner for watching close-up action with outfield viewing and grandstands. Also an excellent camera point.
ACCESS -
The paddock is on the infield with a charge for access at larger events. It also contains a bar and cafe. |
