Renault 5 RWD
£2500.00
 |
Offered through private sale. A Renault 5 converted to rear engine/rear drive utilising a 172
engine. Used as Sprint and Hill Climb car (MSA log book). C be used with minimal mods to tarmac rally car.
I’ve spent hundreds of man hours on this and I’ve no idea how much, but due to the lack of a garage I feel the time is right to
move on. The car is road legal and is taxed and MOT'd til August 2010, it's currently still classed as a 1400cc on the log book
this could do with changing but I will leave it in case someone wanted to convert it back to GT Turbo running gear. I Insured it
through HIC, oddly they didn't seemed overly concerned about it being rear wheel drive and based the policy on a Clio 172 with
all the mods declared it costs me £360 TPF&T based on a 34yr old with full no claims.
Whoever buys this car will need to be mechanically minded or have a friend who is. The rear end of this car whilst using mostly
standard parts, does have modified hubs and rear suspension arms to reduce bump steer . If you were to damage them you wouldn’t
be able to pop into GSF to buy a new pair.. Although you could go back to the original lower arms/hubs and install a steering
rack and lock it off, although I found I got bump steer with that set up. |
I’ve put a price of £2500 as this doesn’t include the bucket seats in the pictures (these are my friends and I need to give him
them back) these have been replaced with standard Phase2 seats and will retain the 6 point harnesses.
The bad bits
The gearbox going from first to second crunches under hard acceleration. There is a bit of rust around the front screen.
Now onto the good bits
The car is pretty unique, with the clio 172 phase 2 engine in this absolutely flies and at my last sprint event posted a quite
reasonable time for a first day out. The best thing about it is that the engine as standard is quite powerfull giving around 180bhp
so in this state of tune you can run it all day without worry.
Basically there’s a grands worth of engine and ecu in the car so it would be possible to remove sell and put the standard GT Turbo
engine back in if you wish (not supplied).
Spec is as follows:
Clio 172 Phase 2 Engine (approx 66k miles when bought) with Phase 1 throttle body (cable type)
Emerald ECU (worth £680) see http://www.emeraldm3d.com/em_pricing.html
Four paddle clutch
recently tuned by Dave Walker (another £300) this gave 183bhp (see printout earlier in thread)
Full safety devices roll cage with door bars and additional cross bar for harnesses
6 point TRS harnesses
Lotus Elise Stainless exhaust
Removable engine cover in aluminium
Fabricated aluminium fuel tank
Coilovers these are standard shocks with a coilover conversion see my article
http://gomodit.blogspot.com/2007/12/...-december.html
I have a pair of koni adjustables (ph1 for the front)and a pair of cup shocks (ph2 for the rear) that I will go with the car
but will need converting to coilovers first – this shouldn’t cost as you could use the kit of the shock absorbers on the car.
The brakes are up rated discs and pads, I’m not sure which but they stop the car.
Hydraulic handbrake and brake bias for adjusting how much braking the rear gets
Hydraulic clutch for a lighter pedal and does away with an extra cable
Fire extinguisher never used
That’s about it – feel free to ask any questions and you can view the build through it's
many stages at http://www.gomodit.co.uk.

Vauxhall Astra GSi
Now available through private sale. Our 1991 Vauxhall Astra GSi/SRi stage rally car. MSA log book. Full OMP welded multi-point
cage with double drivers side door bars. We have decided to concentrate on our Impreza
shown here. We spent approximately £15,000 building this
from a stripped motor sport shell. It has been developed to allow those on a budget to concentrate on competition and not continual costs. Car recently
stripped, re-painted, vinyled and now ready for sale.
The 2.0 C20XE red top engine has an original Coscast head. It is in a mild state of tune putting out 197bhp on QED Q38H
cams with surge prevented by a camshaft oil baffle plate. Also fitted with forged pistons and a lightened and balanced flywheel.
The motor breathes through a K&N filter to twin Weber 45's into a competition Milltek 4-1 exhaust with 'matched to port' manifold.
We have also fitted an alloy oil catch tank, rather nice vernier pulleys, and stronger sump bolts.
The gearbox, whilst still synchro is a lightened F20 casing with F16 internals. Also a Quaife 5.1 straight cut crown wheel and matched
pinion. This low gearing allows superb acceleration putting down a lot of power for hairpins and tight 90's. The power then runs through a Tran-X
plated diff built with ramp angles of 90 % lock-up on acceleration and 35 % on deceleration. This Tran-X was chosen as it will allow
you to drive with one shaft.
Steering has been upgraded to a competition steering rack with lock-stops turned through a Corsa electric steering column. The
suede Momo steering wheel also has a professional quick release for easing your access/egress to/from the car.
Harry Hockley 2.25 front coil over suspension. Bilstein inserts. Two-way adjustable with adjustable top mounts keep the
front in line. Whilst the photos show Tar-Ox vented and grooved front discs these have been junked (they've cracked on our astra and impreza) for
standard discs which have proved far superior when mated with the fitted front calipers running Mintex 1144 pads. Powerflex bushes fitted
throughout.
Rear suspension runs Leda adjustable struts running standard springs. The latter keep the car in far better shape on all surfaces than any
competition springs we've tried. Rear brakes are also standard discs with competition pads and internal drum hand brake. This brings us to the amazing
custom made 26 inch hydraulic hand brake lever. Inches from the steering wheel a quick tug, the rear locks and you point the way you came. This
is the ultimate single venue hair-pin beater. With tighter hair-pins (MIRA, Croft etc.) this is a must. Internal brake lines run through a brake
bias valve adjustable by driver or navigator.
Inside you will find two immaculate 2007 Sparco Pro ADV seats with head bolsters. Made for a slightly broader figure. As mentioned the steering
wheel releases when needed. Custom made chequer plate footwells. Custom made hydraulic hand brake bracket. Custom made fire extinguisher pull.
Fuses on dash to drivers off side. We have included electric windows as winders will not work with doors closed. Aluminium interior panels
to both doors and inside rears. Fronts covered in carbon-look vinyl as are the alloy seat mounts and centre dash panel. The centre console has
switches for lights, lamp pod, horn, indicators, keyless start button, electric cut-off all available to both occupants. Also included is a
Terraphone intercom 'wired in' and two Terraphone Practice Headsets with Peltor adaptors.
Also included are: 2007 TRS Magnum six-point harnesses in red with aircraft buckle. Navigators Avanti flexible map light. A plumbed in
AFFF fire system. A 2kg AFFF hand held extinguisher bracketd in passenger footwell. Both professionally tested 23-04-2010. A fully wired lamp
pod with 4 huge Cibie lights running H2 blade 85W bulbs, attachable by rivnuts to the bonnet. The car comes with 4x Compomotive MO 15x6 et42
five spoke alloys (painetd white) wearing scrubbed Yokohama Parada Spec-2 road tyres (can use as wets).Other wheels and tyres are available by separate
negotiation.
We will also include the following spares:
Nearside driveshaft
Offside driveshaft
Front suspension struts, hubs, discs
Bilstein front inserts
Bilstein rear dampers
Radiator
Steering rack
Headlamps offside and nearside
Rear lamps offside and nearside
Front discs pair
Coil Pack
Mintex 1144 brakes pads front and rear
Ferodo Racing brakes pads front and rear
Track rod ends x2
Engine mount rear competition
Front bumper new painted white
Rear Bumper painted white
Side Skirts original white
This is an excellent car. It is ideal for anyone rallying on a budget but requiring a ready to compete car where the development has been
done. We have spent the money testing different components and now you don't have to. We have decided to concentrate all efforts with our Impreza
WRX STi type RA for 2010. As our budget is still tight the Astra reluctantly has to go. Our standard of work always means we breeze through
scrutineering. The car is currently on SORN and has an MSA Log Book.
I am asking £6500.00 or near offer for this ready to rally car.
For the price of £8000.00 I will also include:
8x Team Dynamics Pro-Rally 6x15 gravel wheels
7x Compomotive MO 6x15 mixed surface wheels
8x Team Dymanics 100+ Jet alloys 6.5x15 tarmac wheels
2x new Yokohama Parada Spec-2

4x Maxsport 205/55 R15 RB5 moulded slick (scrubbed)

2x Dunlop 82 (used)
